Sesje i wykłady otwarte / Archiwum / Hermeneutics and Biblical Theology
BIBLICAL THEOLOGY AND HERMENEUTICS:
SACRIFICE, PRIESTHOOD, AND HOLINESS
lecturer: Stephen D. Ryan OP (Washington, USA)
dates: 9th- 21st February 2012
place: Kolegium Filozoficzno-Teologiczne, Kraków
A renewed interest in the study of sacrifice, priesthood. purity, and holiness in the Bible has focused scholarly attention on an area of biblical thought long neglected and often poorly understood. This course will provide an introduction to contemporary biblical theology and hermeneutics in the form of a study of sacrifice and priesthood in the Old Testament, drawing on the works of Origen, Aquinas, Jacob Milgrom, Gary Anderson, Jonathan Klawans, Matthew Levering, Joseph Ratzinger, René Girard, and Adrian Schenker.
In seeking to understand Old Testament sacrifice and purity in the light of Christ, this course in biblical theology and hermeneutics will consider the ways in which participation in Christ’s priesthood in the sacramental life of the Church empowers believers to live the precepts of the Old Law in their fulfilled reality, enabling us to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
